Maintaining Ceramic Tile & Grout Purchase a neutral cleaner at any hardware store. Ask the clerk if you can't find it. Find one that is non-rinsing if you can. That will save you a step of having to rinse the floor with water after cleaning. Make sure it says “neutral” on the label. Multi-purpose cleaners may not be neutral. Do not use harsh cleaners like high alkaline strippers, degreasers or acid type cleaners. They will break down the sealer over time. Light/Daily Cleaning Vacuum with a bristle brush attachmet. Bi-monthly Mix the neutral cleaner as directed and put into a spray bottle. Spray onto the floor and go over the floor with a swiffer type mop. Rinse the floor if directed by the neutral cleaner instructions. Make sure whatever you use gets into the grout lines. Most swiffers do not get into the grout lines well enough. Heavy Cleaning/Yearly Apply the cleaner on the floor with a mop. Go over the floor with deck brush that will get into grout lines. A grout line V-shaped brush that is fitted onto a pole can be used to get into grout lines that are noticeably discoloring. I have seen some at home depot. After scubbing the floor remove the solution with a wet vac or mop. Rinse the floor with water and dry with fans or cotton towels. Testing the sealer. Place some water droplets on the grout line. The grout should not noticably darken and the droplets should stay on top of the grout. If the grout darkens, the water is penetrating the grout and the sealer should be applied.
